Day 19: Food Guides

Today, I woke up and weighed myself. Weight is: 84.1Kg. Yesterday I consumed 85 calories below my BMR and did 345 calories of exercise above my BMR. Total deficit is 430 calories.


I spend more time closer to 83Kg than to 84Kg, so at least from that perspective, things seem to be working. Advances are slower than anticipated.


I’m working on a large blog post about food guides. Some of the points to make are food guides for different countries are different, because they are different, they may not provide the best information on an individual basis. Their main purpose is to provide an idea of what to eat to people who are just beginning to learn about nutrition.


One example of a flaw in a food guide: Both the U.S. and Canadian food guides have milk and milk products as a food group. The problem is, only people of European descent can digest cow’s milk. Native North and South Americans, Asians, and Indians cannot digest cow’s milk. Since we’re all human, shouldn’t a food guide be for all people?
